Off-Grid Escapes

Have the shorter days got you dreaming of some much-needed sunshine and time outdoors?

To us, an off-grid escape is about more than being disconnected from the electrical grid. It's about wide-open space, lots of fresh air, and the best part of all: leaving your phone in aeroplane mode.

Sounding lovely? Below are some of our favourite off-grid properties — each designed for an immersive nature experience. Happy adventuring!

6 guests, 3 bedrooms

Eldorado Cottage

Golspie, NSW (3 hours from Sydney)

As you drive up the long country driveway, you may not be quite sure what to expect from the remote cottage on top of the hill. Spoiler alert: it offers unexpected luxury through lovingly upcycled interiors and delightful 360° views of the surrounding farmland. Your days here will be filled with the sounds of the native birdlife, and end with a long soak in the wood-fired hot tub.

Wilga Station

Bathurst, NSW (3 hours from Sydney)

A stay at Wilga Station showcases the highlights of farm living — idyllic views, tracks along the creek to explore, a natural swimming pond and, of course, fire pits for toasting marshmallows. Couples are catered for with the grass-roofed, secluded Farmer's Hut, while groups or families of up to 10 can stay in the rustic-but-luxe converted Shearer's Hall. Unplug and explore!

2 guests, 1 bedroom

Mill Cabin

Crackenback, NSW (5 hours from Sydney)

Mill Cabin combines the best nature experiences with the most sustainable comforts. The thoughtfulness is evident in every corner of this one-bedroom granite rock cabin, designed to harmoniously connect with the alpine bushland (which is thick with wildlife). Not far from the town of Jindabyne and the ski slopes, but completely private, you're in for a memorable and special slow stay.

Bolinda Vale Farm

Keysbrook, WA (1 hour from Perth)

For the keen adventurers who are fully-equipped for camping, Bolinda Vale Farm has beautiful creekside campsites waiting for you. The farm is located on the foothills of the Darling Range, close to Serpentine Falls for some waterfall swims, and nearby to walking and mountain bike trails. Back at your campfire, kick back and listen to the babbling brook as the sun sets.
