Sleeps: 11

Bedrooms: 5

Description

Welcome to Coombs Hill Barn, a genuine, 160 year old American Barn imported from Indiana, USA. Disassembled piece-by-piece in 2017 and transported to our magnificent 100 acre property in the shadow of Mt Buller at the foothills of Victoria’s High Country, where it has been lovingly restored and re-built just like it would have been originally in the 1860’s.

Coombs Hill Barn is a truly unique, luxury private home set on 100 acres of farming land overlooking the picturesque Delatite Valley. Perfect for couples, groups and families alike, Coombs Hill is ideal for a family birthday, anniversary celebration, group getaway, small event or elopement.

The Barn and surrounding land is all yours to relax in and marvel at. You will have frequent visits from local wildlife and plenty of space for picturesque walks. The barn truly is story of craftmanship. From the soaring, quadruple height vaulted ceilings, to the steel frame windows which perfectly picture frame Buller, Timbertop and valley views and the 12m high stone fireplace (each piece of which was collected by hand from the surrounding paddocks), the Great Room is a very special place to unwind and soak in the history with family and friends.

Outside is an elevated large timber deck with stunning valley and mountain vistas, an ideal place to enjoy some of the area’s best sunsets with a glass of King Valley wine, while the interconnected full size Chefs kitchen is the perfect place to prepare a special dinner to be served at the adjoining custom made 12+ seater ‘barn wood’ timber table.
Accommodation comprises of 4 King rooms (3 of which have individual ensuites and one with direct bathroom access) and one 3 person Bunk room, all with reverse cycle heating/ cooling and large, openable steel framed windows which make the most of the surrounding landscape. An automated in-floor heating system and open fireplace, ceiling fans and air-conditioning throughout means you will always be comfortable, no matter the temperature outside.

About your local community

Merrijig the perfect location to enjoy all that Victoria’s High Country has to offer. With its close proximity to Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, the region is an ideal place to stay to enjoy all your winter sports within minutes drive. The entry gate to Mt Buller/Mt Stirling is an easy 15 minute drive from Coombs Hill Barn.

While skiing is the major winter activity, once the snow melts the area becomes ideal for walking. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for hiking, but even at the height of summer you can find respite with a dip in the Delatite River and swimming holes. During these warmer months the region is known for its hiking trails, bike trails, fishing and swimming in the Delatite River, boating on Lake Eildon, horse riding and 4 wheel driving.

We have a big focus on supporting the local community and will always recommend some of our favourite eateries and sights for our guests. The region is also known for its wine and gourmet produce, with an array of vineyards, cafes and restaurants in the local area and in Mansfield town, an easy 15 minute drive away.

As the owner, what is your favourite thing to do at this property?

Our favourite thing to do at Coombs Hill is relax with a drink. Sometimes that is in front of the fire with a glass of red wine after a long day on the slopes and other times its with a coffee watching the sky change colour as the sun rises in the morning. Both as incredible as each other.

As the owner, what is your favourite day trip from this property?

In the warmer months our favourite day trip would be to head into Mansfield town for a coffee from the Mansfield Coffee Merchant and a wander around the local boutique shops. From there a visit to the Delatite Winery to enjoy one of the picnic hampers and enjoy on the grass amongst the vines. For an afternoon well spent, take a 20 min drive to Mirimbah Park. The park is bordered by the shallow flowing waters of Delatite River. We love splashing amongst the rock pools in the river. An idyllic place to cool off after a warm day.

During the Winter months, you cannot go past a day on the slopes. The Mt Buller entry gate is a 15 minute drive from the property. You can park your car there and get the bus up the mountain or you can hire chains and make your own way up. We can provide information regarding lift passes and equipment rentals should you need. Finish up your day with a glass of wine (or hot chocolate) by our stone fireplace and a warm home cooked dinner.

Guests shouldn't forget to pack their...

Their favourite book (or two), bottle of wine to drink by the fire, walking shoes for the many hikes or your bikes to ride the trails and of course, you camera for the spectacular views.
